Haplast delivers 2.4 kilometers of PE- pipe for a new water main in Tromsø

Haplast has delivered 2,400 meters of PE pipe for Tromsø Municipality's new main water pipeline between Kvaløya and Tromsøya. The pipes were delivered from Furuflaten and joined using butt welding both on the quay and on a barge outside Tromsø.

From Furuflaten to Sandnessundet

Work is underway in Sandnessundet to establish a new main water pipeline that will help secure the water supply in Tromsø. Finnsnes Dykk & Anleggservice AS (FDA) is the executing contractor for the marine works and is responsible for laying the pipeline on the bottom of Sandnessundet.

For the project, Haplast has supplied 12 lengths of pipe, each 200 meters long, with a diameter of 710 mm and SDR class 7.4. The pipes were delivered with tow caps for transport by sea.

Before delivery, the pipes were butt welded together at the quay in Furuflaten into four longer sections. These were then joined together on a barge outside Tromsø.

The delivery illustrates how the production of long PE pipe , adapted for sea transport and butt welding, can contribute to the efficient implementation of large water pipeline projects.

An important investment in water supply

The new main water pipe will replace an older steel pipe from 1984. After Tromsø Municipality discovered leaks and corrosion damage on the existing pipe, it was decided to accelerate the replacement.

Finnsnes Dykk & Anleggservice AS is responsible for the work of laying the new pipeline on the seabed in Sandnessundet.

For Haplast, this is yet another example of how pipe deliveries from Furuflaten are part of socially critical infrastructure in Northern Norway.
